Professional soccer’s Busan I-Park extended its unbeaten streak to three games with a win over Cheonan City FC, starting its push to regain the lead.

Busan defeated Cheonan 1-0 in their K League 2 2023 home match at Gudeok Stadium on May 5. Frontline striker Kim Chan scored the winning goal with a spectacular overhead kick.

With two wins and a draw in three games, including a 2-1 victory over FC Anyang on March 24, Busan moved to 41 points (11 wins, 8 draws, 4 losses), just one point behind leader Gimcheon Commerce (42-13 wins, 3 draws, 6 losses). However, Gimcheon has played one game less.

On the day, Busan struggled a bit against last-place Cheonan. In the first half alone, Cheonan’s Paulinho threatened twice. Goalkeeper Koo Sang-min made a great save.

Busan broke through in the 39th minute when Kim Chan scored a picturesque wonder goal. Following a throw-in, Kim Chan trapped the ball in mid-air and shook the Cheonan goal with a spectacular overhead kick.

With a 1-0 lead, Goo Sang-min’s saves in the second half were remarkable. Goalkeeper Koo Sang-min saved successive shots from Cheonan’s Paulinho, Motta, and Kim Jong-min in the last minute of the second half to preserve Busan’s 1-0 victory.

On this day, Busan played its home game at Gudeok Stadium due to the preseason friendly match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Jeonbuk Hyundai at Busan Asiad Stadium on the 3rd. Due to the unexpected change of venue, Busan won against the last-place team, but the performance left something to be desired. The home game against the Jeonnam Dragons on March 15 will also be held at Gudeok Stadium.
