The South Korean women’s national volleyball team defeated Australia to advance to the fifth through eighth place match at the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championship.

With a 1-2 record and four points, South Korea clinched third place in Pool E and will face the last-place (fourth-ranked) team in Pool F, India (67th in the world), in the fifth-to-eighth place match at 2 p.m. on Friday. Australia, who finished fourth in Pool E with a 3-0 record, will face third-place Kazakhstan (ranked 39th in the world) in the 5th-8th place match.
South Korea, who lost to Thailand the previous day and failed to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in the history of the Asian Volleyball Championship, had the upper hand against Australia in the match.
In the first set, Korea held off a late Australian rally to take the set 26-24. With the momentum in their favor, Korea took the second set 25-13 and the third set 25-14 to close out the match.
