Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins was unable to join the championship series roster.
Hoskins was not named on the National League Championship Series roster announced by the Phillies on the 17th (Korean time).
Hoskins suffered a serious injury, rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while trying to catch a ground ball during an exhibition game last March.
Since then, he has continued rehabilitation at the club’s training facility in Clearwater, Florida, and has improved his condition to a level where he can aim for a return to action.
Coach Rob Thompson explained the reason for not including Hoskins on the roster, saying, “We’re not ready yet.”
He said, “It’s a matter of timing. He looked a little unsure circling the bases. He also spoke to the player and he felt like he should be safe. “I hope he can play in the next series,” he added.
Philadelphia prepared the same roster as the last division series.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks, who will face them, increased the number of pitchers to 13 by excluding infielder Jace Peterson and including right-hander Slade Cecconi.
