Tottenham manager Enze Postecoglou has spoken highly of Pape Sarr, 21.
The Senegalese international made his professional debut for Metz in France. He moved to Tottenham in 2021. Tottenham reduced the price of the transfer by sending him on loan to Metz until the 2021-22 season and signed him for €20 million ($28.3 million).
He returned to Tottenham for the 2022-23 season, but struggled for playing time behind the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur. Of his 11 Premier League appearances, he made just two starts. Pape’s main role was as a backup to the first team.토토사이트
This season, however, things have been completely different. New Tottenham boss Enze Postecoglou has changed the midfield by playing Sarr up front. Along with Yves Bissouma, Sarr formed the backbone of Tottenham’s defense. A whopping nine of his 10 league appearances have been starts.
Sarr’s work rate is a strength, adding to the midfield’s mobility. He also uses his elasticity to break up play and influence the development of attacks. Recently, he has been playing a key role in side-to-side transitions with his reliable kicks.
Postecoglou has been pleased with Sar’s performance. “He can play as a number six, eight or 10 in the midfield area, and sometimes he can play as a side-back,” Postecoglu told Football London on Sunday. He is very versatile.”
“He has a lot of energy and it’s a very professional attitude. As he gains more experience, his game will become more and more sophisticated. Sometimes he is a bit impatient when it comes to judging the situation on the pitch, but for a player of his age and experience, it’s great.”
Postecoglou’s praise was echoed by Tottenham fans. According to Spurs fan community SpursWeb, Spurs fans who saw the interview said things like “Sarri is our Jude Bellingham” and “He’s more important than Bissouma”.
